Independent home entertainment and multimedia company Desert Mountain Media is launching the Latin Cinema Collection, a new line of classic and contemporary works to be presented on disc in digitally cleaned up editions struck from original film negatives. The collection comprises a mix of new works and older classics created by some of the leading figures in Latin cinema. The first three films scheduled under the new label are the 1995 Cilantro y Perejil (Recipes to Stay Together), directed by Rafael Montero and winner of nine Ariel (Mexican Academy) Awards; Arturo Ripsteins El Imperio de la Fortuna (The Realm of Fortune), winner of eight Ariels; and Angel de Fuego (Angel of Fire) by Dana Rotberg, winner of the 1993 International Critics Award for Best Picture at the International Latino Film Festival and an official selection of the 1992 Cannes Film Festival Directors Fortnight. They will be distributes by Ventura Distribution and will street Dec. 3 at $19.95 each. All will feature Spanish-language tracks, English subtitles, and bilingual packaging and menus. Phoenix-based Desert Mountain Media was founded in August 2001 by company president Leslie Haas, former VP and GM of the Sony Pictures DVD Center.
